Have you ever stopped for a moment to consider how we live our lives?An endless humdrum of responsbilities, to-do lists, stress and worry about tomorrow, every single day......of course you know what I'm talking about.A large majority, in the Western world especially, lives like this.
The reason for my rambling above is a song I was listening to last night.It's called Wayfarer, by my favourite group, Nightwish.I was passionately singing along with the lyrics.When the line"What if I only had one more night to live?"came out of my mouth,I had a massive a-ha moment.What WOULD I do if I had only one more night to live? What would I change?What would I want more of?
My everyday life consists of getting up early and ticking off an endless to-do list in my head,stressing if things are not done properly and on time.I'm sure you can relate when
I say that while I'm performing my duties, I'm not fully mindful and aware, either of myself, the others around me or my surroundings.The only thing on my mind is my
to-do list, my duties.I don't really live or experience life to the fullest.I just DO,I perform.
Everyone, myself included, take our lives for granted.We are so damn sure there's going to be a tomorrow.Life is not something you can take for granted, though.For all I know, this could be my last day on this planet.So, if I had only one more night to live, what would I do differently?
I'd start noticing the world and the people in my life.Truly pay attention.Our world is wondrous and yet we seem to believe it is a given.The people in our lives,people who are with us on this journey of life. Take a moment to truly see them, listen to them. Truly appreciate the gift of living on this planet, appreciate and be grateful for everyone in your life.
Give yourself some TLC.How often do we pay attention to what WE need?Play your favourite music, as loudly as possible, dance to it like crazy (or headbang, that's also fine!)Run yourself a bubble bath and enjoy the relaxation it gives you.Go for a walk in nature to truly comprehend the miracle of life, the diversity and perfection of it all.
Take up an extreme sport, travel, meet new people, help someone in need. Pursue
that dream you've had for as long you can remember, but kept postponing for another tomorrow.In short, do something for yourself, whatever pleases you,take care of your body and soul, even once a day.It will work wonders.
Call people you've lost contact with.Tell the precious people in your life, or a very special someone, that you love them.Demonstrate this with lots of hugs and kisses.Truly LISTEN, BE PRESENT when in conversation.FEEL every droplet of life coming your way.Cherish it. We walk through our lives in a rather absent-minded fashion, absorbed in our problems.....we forget the people in our lives need our light as much as we need theirs.So, reach out and give some love and light!
To put an end to my babbling,start to LIVE.BE PRESENT.LOVE.And then love some more.And even more.Show it anyway you can.Allow every experience in, invite it and squeeze every drop of life until it's become part of your soul.Every day is yet another voyage in the vast ocean of your life.After all, if this was to be indeed the last night, wouldn't you take advantage of it?So why wait? Start now.And for God's sake live!With FIRE and PASSION for it is only then you truly know what it's like to be alive...
It is easy in the world to live after the world's opinion;
It is easy in solitude to live after our own;
but the great man is he who in the midst of the crowd
keeps with perfect sweetness the independence
